Conservation tour with Rewilding Europe

Experience Romania’s wild heart on a transformative self drive expedition linking the Southern Carpathians, Transylvania, and the Danube Delta - conservation, culture, and adventure converge.

From tracking European bison in the Southern Carpathians alongside Rewilding practitioners to navigating the hidden wildlife sanctuaries of the UNESCO‑listed Danube Delta, this journey offers rare, behind-the-scenes access to Europe’s most vital landscapes. This is made possible through our partnership with Rewilding Europe.

Between wild encounters and historic ramparts, slow down and immerse yourself in the storybook heritage of Transylvania’s medieval citadels (including the so‑called Dracula Castle), Saxon villages and royal castles, staying in handpicked retreats and savour farm‑to‑table cuisine and local wines.

Included

Arrival and departure transfers, vehicle hire, vehicle insurance (full insurance), two-way radio in vehicle, first aid equipment in support vehicle, all hotels, guide vehicle and local English-speaking tour guide. There will be a Self Drive Adventures escort travelling with the local guide.
Activities included: Day 2 – guided tour of Timișoara, Days 3 & 4 - Bison trekking and village visits, Day 12 – bird monitoring workshop, Day 13 - hide experience, Day 14 – boat trip
Meals included: Daily breakfast, 11 lunches: 4 days, Bison Tracking and Cernei Mountains, 3 days Retezat, 4 days Danube Delta, 11 dinners: welcome and farewell dinners plus 4 nights in Tarcu Mountains and 5 nights dinners in the Danube Delta.

Excluded

Airfares to Timisoara, alcoholic drinks and other meals not included (approx. 600 euros per person for meals), fuel approx. 400 euros per vehicle for 2,200km route, local entrance fees and activities not included (approx. 250 euros per person), local tips, travel insurance, visas and immunisations.
